“The Christmas Shoes” and “The Christmas Blessing” W/ Adam Felber

The saddest Christmas song ever was made into the saddest Christmas movie ever. “The Christmas Shoes” stars Rob Lowe, Dorian Harewood, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, John Dunsworth (“The Trailer Park Boys”) and a fabulous pair of shoes. Listen to  me and NPR’s Adam Felber (“Wait… Wait Don’t Tell Me”) via Skype from his backyard to talk about the this three hanky tearjerker and it’s sequel, “The Christmas Blessing.”

Watch the Christmas Shoes Here.

From IMDB.com: Two separate stories mesh – in the first, a young music teacher, Maggie Andrews, begins dying of a heart condition and her son Nathan tries to get a pair of Christmas shoes for her before she dies. In the second, lawyer Robert Layton and his wife Kate are slowly drifting apart and the matter comes to a head during Christmas when Kate takes over for Maggie for the school choir and declines a job in Robert’s firm. When Robert’s mother passes away, he begins to reconsider things and his and Nathan’s paths cross on Christmas Eve as Nathan tries to raise the money for the shoes and Robert tries to get a present for his daughter. Mr. Jefferson’s Last Strut

Sherman Hemsley died of cancer. Boring. Unless “Ghost Fever” is a form of cancer. In honor of the post Morten report, here’s the lost episode of “Proudly Resents” which features Joey La Pena and Mike Spiegelman talking about Sherman’s big flop “Ghost Fever.” This episode was pulled from rotation b/c Joey turned on his Iphone at the end of the show and messed up the audio. But the show is funny, breezy and different than the other show about this movie…why? Because Mike and Joey love this film. Also, different stories and background.

At the end of the show we talk about other podcasts that we are listening to. What shows, besides the popular, usual suspects do you listen to?

Three of the Week 11/7

Story Worthy is a great story telling show hosted by Christine Blackburn and Hannes Phinney. Each week they have a different guest and a different subjects. Stories about waiting tables, c*ck blocking, young love and barking dogs. first the hosts give their take on the subject. Then guest will do a story and then a quick interview. The shows are close to 40 minutes. They are a lot of fun. (Full disclosure, I was a guest. It was fun. They will be on “Proudly Resents”  soon.)

The Jerky Boys Show with Johnny Brennan. If we wait long enough everyone will have a podcast. Proof? JB of the Jerky Boys has a show that plays one bit and then he answers questions and gives background on some of the bits. I have a question, what happened to the other guy who was in the group? Why do you take all the credit? Also, as a fan of the Jerky Boys and a New York accent, how can I not listen every week?

Martini Shot– TV writer Rob Long does a weekly radio column on KCRW. He talks about Hollywood showbiz stuff and makes it universal. Interesting stuff. Each show is 4 minutes. You can listen to a munch of shows at one.
